What is Corrective Orthodontic Treatment ?

Corrective orthodontic treatment focuses on addressing established misalignments and malocclusions, like crooked, gapped, or overlapping teeth, using various dental appliances to reposition teeth and improve bite function and aesthetics. This can involve appliances like braces (metal, ceramic, or lingual) or clear aligners. In some cases, jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) may be needed to correct underlying jaw issues.

Types of Corrective Orthodontic Treatment:

  • Traditional Braces:
These use metal brackets and wires to apply consistent force to teeth, gradually moving them into alignment.

  • Clear Aligners:
These are custom-made, removable plastic trays that gently shift teeth into position.

  • Lingual Braces:
These are placed on the back (lingual) side of the teeth, making them less visible.

  • Ceramic Braces:
These use ceramic brackets that are less noticeable than traditional metal brackets.

When Corrective Orthodontics is Used:

    • Malocclusion: This refers to any misalignment of the teeth or jaws.

    • Crooked, Overlapped, or Gapped Teeth: These are common reasons for orthodontic treatment.

    • Jaw Deformities: In some cases, orthodontic treatment may be combined with jaw surgery to correct skeletal issues.

Benefits of Corrective Orthodontic Treatment:

  • Improved Bite Function: Correctly aligned teeth and jaws can improve chewing, speech, and overall oral health.

  • Enhanced Aesthetics: Straight, well-aligned teeth can improve your smile and overall appearance.

  • Increased Confidence: Improved aesthetics and function can boost self-esteem.

  • Preventing Further Problems: Early correction of malocclusions can prevent future dental problems.
